Are you up to date with legislation about dual-use products?

Dual-use products are products that have a civilian use but can also be used for military purposes or for production of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems.

Dual-use products

Examples can be various types of materials, chemicals, machine tools, heat exchangers, valves, pumps, and certain consulting services and design drawings. Some other products of particular strategic importance are also classified as dual-use products, such as equipment for information security that use cryptography.

Exporting dual-use products

When dual-use products are to be exported out of the EU, a permit is always required. However, you do not need a permit when transferring dual-use products to another EU country.

As research can have both civilian and military applications, it is the responsibility of suppliers of services and equipment to ensure that issues regarding the export of controlled products are handled in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

In cases where a product is subject to export control, the supplier must apply for a permit according to the existing regulatory framework.
