Swedish companies already sell products and services to Big Science research organisations to a value of SEK 100-200 million per year. Swedish industry and society also benefit from the transfer of technology developed at the large research facilities for use in other applications.

Cutting-edge technology

“The Big Science research facilities are world-leading, and conduct groundbreaking research," explains Patrik Carlsson, Co-Director of Big Science Sweden. “Our mission is to support Swedish suppliers in providing goods and services that contribute to building up and developing these facilities.

“We're not talking about production of bulk goods like toilet paper and iron ore, but things like advanced electronics, nuclear technology, robotics, new production methods, and new types of materials and systems.”

Enormous potential for Swedish industry

Catarina Sahlberg, Programme Director, sees potential for considerably greater volumes.

“If we continue this trend, we could get up to a billion kronor through strong collaborations on technological development.”
