Catarina Sahlberg continues her Sweden tour, with a productive stop in Luleå

Catarina Sahlberg, new Programme Director at Big Science Sweden, is travelling round the country and visiting the various Big Science Sweden nodes and partner universities. The visit to Luleå University of Technology included both discussions on the research infrastructure and a tour of the Robotics Laboratory.

As part of her tour, Catarina Sahlberg recently visited Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and LTU Business, where discussions included identifying synergies and various forms for future collaboration. The university has developed a new process regarding research infrastructure, and has an ambition to become more involved, on local, national, and international levels. Big Science Sweden is the natural bridge for increased contacts between LTU and the research facilities.

“It’s so rewarding to travel around and get an insight into all the fine work that’s being done,” says Catarina. “We can also discuss how we can work together to strengthen Swedish research and industry, and how to build new networks in the Big Science community. Many thanks to everyone here in Luleå who gave me such a warm welcome and put together this inspiring programme.”

Catarina also visited the Robotics Laboratory, and tested operating a robot dog. The laboratory is involved in an interesting project with CERN, in which technology is being developed for autonomous drone robots that can be used to examine the accelerator tunnels.

Participants from Big Science Sweden’s northern node were Adam Wikström (LTU Business) and Ekaterina Osipova (LTU representative on the Big Science Sweden Steering Committee).
