Catarina Sahlberg new Chair of the FAIR Council

Catarina Sahlberg, Programme Director at Big Science Sweden, has been appointed Chair of the Council of FAIR, the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research, under construction in Darmstadt, Germany.

The FAIR organisation is delighted that Catarina is now taking over the position of Chair. “Catarina Sahlberg has been dedicated to FAIR for over 10 years and enjoys the trust of our stakeholders. Her experience and dedication will drive FAIR forward. We are grateful for her commitment and look forward to a successful future!”

Critical construction phase

FAIR will be one of the largest research projects worldwide, and building up the facility will naturally bring many challenges.

“I am proud to be elected the first non-German chair of the FAIR Council. The FAIR project is currently in a critical construction phase, and I hope to be able to contribute to taking the project towards completion,' says Catarina.

Catarina’s experience and contact network is invaluable for the Big Science Sweden organisation, where expertise and good relationships with the international research organisations are crucial.

FAIR – The Universe in the Lab

The international accelerator facility FAIR is currently under construction in Darmstadt, Germany.

At FAIR, matter that usually only exists in the depth of space will be produced in a lab for research. Scientists from all over the world will be able to gain new insights into the structure of matter and the evolution of the universe from the Big Bang to the present.
