CERN 70 Years – a tour filled with science, connections, and inspiration
Science lectures and exhibitions
The tour visited a total of nine cities, from Luleå in the north to Malmö in the south. It also featured an exhibition about CERN, showcasing the facility itself and the groundbreaking discoveries made there.
“It has been an amazing journey, and incredibly exciting to see how many people are interested in the research being conducted at CERN. CERN is a massive facility that pushes the boundaries of what is possible. This requires both ingenuity and hands-on practical work. What I think surprises many is just how many different career opportunities exist at CERN and the wide range of professions they employ,” says Jonas Strandberg, Associate Professor of Particle Physics at KTH, who conducts research at CERN and was one of the organizers behind the tour.
Lecturers during the tour included:
- Jonas Strandberg (KTH)
- Sara Strandberg (Stockholm University)
- Ayla Borglund (CERN)
- Christian Ohm (KTH)
- Anton Lu (CERN)
- Renske Wierda (KTH)
- Giulia Ripellino (Uppsala University)
- Alessandro Montella (Stockholm University)
- Magdalena Vande Voorde (KTH)
- Alice Ohlson (Lund University)
- David Silvermyr (Lunds universitet)
- Ellen Riefel (Stockholm University)
- Axel Gallén (Uppsala University)
- Christina Dimitriadi (KTH)
Sara Strandberg (Stockholm University) spoke about CERN’s 70 years of groundbreaking research and scientific breakthroughs.
Ayla Borglund (CERN) shares insights into the many career opportunities available at CERN.
Jonas Strandberg (KTH): At CERN, there are researchers, technicians, project managers, administrators, and many other roles.
Even researchers enjoy building with LEGO! Here, the ATLAS experiment is shown in a scaled model.
Sweden is one of CERN’s 23 member countries. This gives Swedish students at all degree levels the opportunity to apply to CERN’s various student programmes. See Careers website for more information.
