Great interest in first Thematic Industry Days at CERN

This new event, Thematic Industry Days at CERN, increases awareness of CERN’s technical activities and procurement procedures. The event also stimulates new contacts between CERN and high-tech suppliers, and between suppliers from member states.

The theme for the day was Cabling, assembly and industrialisation of electrical cabinets/switchboards, power converters and switchgears.

Success factors for winning orders

The event attracted no fewer than 85 participants, who watched the presentations and took part in B2B meetings.

Thematic Industry Days at CERN is an event initiated by the CERN ILO network. Industrial Liaison Officers are the link between suppliers in their respective countries and CERN. Important success factors for winning contracts with CERN are keeping up to date with developments, making the right contacts, and getting involved in discussions about new projects at an early stage.

Personal contacts important

Sessions during the day included Procurement Rules, Technology & Innovation, Scientific Priorities, and Collaboration. Fredrik Engelmark, Sweden’s ILO at CERN, sees this new forum as an effective way to obtain the latest information.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet with the people close to the identified needs at CERN, ahead of upcoming procurements,” he says. “We see time and time again how important the personal contact is when initiating business collaborations.”

Thematic Days at CERN will be a recurring event with different themes. Keep an eye on the Big Science Sweden Calendar, where we publish news of all forthcoming events.
