Swedish presence at CERN opens doors for industrial partnerships

Fredrik Engelmark, Sweden’s Industrial Liaison Officer (ILO) for CERN, spends a significant amount of time at CERN identifying business opportunities for Swedish companies. During a particularly rewarding week, he hosted a visit from LUE Engineering, introducing the company to both procurement and technical teams on site.

Richard Jacobsson (CERN) and Lukas Jönsson (LUE Engineering) listen as Marco Calviani (CERN) shares insights.

LUE Engineering

LUE Engineering specialises in automation for medium-sized industries, and design and assembly for the simulator sector. During the visit, CEO Lukas Jönsson was introduced, among others, to Richard Jacobsson, Senior Scientist at CERN, and Marco Calviani, Deputy Head at CERN, responsible for Particle Production and Beam Interception. The meetings provided valuable insight into CERN’s technological needs and future opportunities for collaboration.

A physical presence at CERN is crucial for several reasons. In addition to his work supporting Swedish companies, Fredrik Engelmark also represents Sweden as a delegate on CERN’s influential Finance Committee – giving the Sweden a voice in how major contracts are handled. The committee held one of its scheduled meetings during this particular week.

Building trust and collaboration

“For my role, being on site at CERN is essential. It helps me connect with key individuals – something that enables real collaboration between Swedish companies and the research community. CERN is also always very welcoming – it’s inspiring to meet directly with both procurement and technical teams,” says Fredrik Engelmark.
