UppTalk Weekly – particle accelerators and their applications on the agenda
Maja Olvegård is a researcher working with particle accelerators at UU.
UppTalk Weekly is a popular science seminar series via Zoom where participants enjoy interesting seminars with researchers from Uppsala University every Tuesday, 12.00. The seminars concern relevant topics where the audience also have the opportunity to ask questions.
A particle accelerator uses electromagnetic fields to propel charged particles to very high speeds and energies, and to contain them in well-defined beams. These beams can then be used in research or in modern radiation equipment for cancer.
We meet Maja Olvegård in a conversation about the development of superconducting magnets, generation of neutrino beams, and the importance of large, international accelerator facilities.
